You ordered a new vape, didn't use it for a few days – and the next time you take a puff, it tastes flat, the liquid has darkened, or the battery is barely working. What happened? Usually, the answer is simple: improper storage. With a few basic rules, you can significantly extend the quality and lifespan of your vape.
Why storage is so important for vapes
A vape consists of two sensitive components: the liquid or distillate and the battery. Both are sensitive to heat, light, air, and incorrect positioning. Ignoring this not only risks a poorer taste but also that the vape will die significantly sooner than necessary.

Rule 1: Store cool – but not in the refrigerator
Heat is the biggest enemy of cannabinoid distillates. At high temperatures, terpenes degrade faster, the liquid can discolor, and the viscosity changes – leading to leaks or poor draw. The ideal storage temperature is between 15 and 22 °C.
However, you should avoid the refrigerator. The humid environment and temperature change when removed cause condensation in the device – this damages the battery and can dilute the liquid. Room temperature in a cool room is the best choice.
Rule 2: Keep away from light
UV light significantly accelerates the degradation of cannabinoids and terpenes. A vape left on a sunny windowsill for days will measurably lose quality – even if it's not visible from the outside. The liquid darkens, the aroma becomes flatter.
Always store your vape protected from light: in a drawer, a case, or an opaque box. This is especially true for longer storage over several days.
Rule 3: Store upright
Disposable vapes should always be stored upright – mouthpiece up. Lying down or upside down, the liquid can run into the atomizer, leading to leaks, a burnt taste, or an oversaturated wick. Both worsen the result on the next puff.
If you store several vapes, it's best to place them upright next to each other in a small box or container – clean, tidy, and protected.
Rule 4: Protect from extreme temperatures
Cars in summer, heating rooms in winter, direct sunlight – all these are extreme situations that can quickly damage a vape. Above 30 °C, seals can soften and cause leaks. Below 5 °C, the distillate becomes viscous, the draw becomes harder, and vapor production decreases.
If you do take the vape out of the cold: warm it briefly in your hand and wait a few minutes before taking a puff. This gives the liquid time to reach the correct viscosity.
Rule 5: Keep mouthpiece clean
The mouthpiece is the only opening of the device – and thus also an entry point for dirt, dust, and moisture. Do not keep the vape openly in pants pockets, where lint and dirt can get in. Many devices have a protective cap – use it.
If not used for a longer period, it is worth wiping the mouthpiece with a clean, dry cloth. This ensures hygienic vaping and prevents residues from accumulating in the inlet.
How long does a vape last with proper storage?
With correct storage – cool, dark, upright, dry – an unused vape remains in good quality for six to twelve months. The best-before date can be found on the packaging. Opened vapes should be used within four to eight weeks, as oxygen enters after the first puff and accelerates the degradation process.

Does this also apply to vaporizers and flowers?
Yes – with minor differences. For vaporizer devices: clean after each session, do not leave the battery permanently fully charged, and also store cool and dry. For H3 flowers, the basic rules are even more important – airtight glass container, dark, 15–20 °C, no plastic. Flowers absorb foreign odors and lose their terpene profile much faster with improper storage.

Can I leave my vape in the car?
No problem for a short time in winter – but definitely avoid in summer. Vehicle interiors can heat up to over 60 °C, which damages seals, causes leaks, and irreparably damages the liquid.
My vape draws poorly – what's wrong?
Common causes: The liquid has become too viscous due to cold (warm up briefly), the wick is oversaturated due to horizontal storage (place upright and wait a few minutes), or the mouthpiece is clogged (clean carefully).
How do I know if a vape is still good?
Good liquid is clear to slightly yellowish, smells intense and aromatic. Heavily dark, cloudy liquid or a musty, burnt smell are signs of aging or poor storage.
How long does the battery of a disposable vape last?
The battery charge of our Canapuff Vapes is designed for the entire filling volume – a 1ml vape provides approx. 200–300 puffs, a 2ml XXL vape accordingly approx. 400–600 puffs. With long storage, the battery can slowly self-discharge – therefore, do not store unused for years.
